That's a great explanation, thanks. I can certainly agree with the "nobody for president" movement (or as Monte Brewster said "vote none of the above"). I think the Rock will be Wavy Grady in 2024.

I probably didn't hang out with as many hard core heads as you did so I may not have been exposed to the living on the road experience (outdoors).

My father-in-law still lives by the propaganda of the "just say no" BS. I keep quiet while he rages about the evils of pot, he gets especially animated after his 3rd drink...

Actually I'm an avid hiker/backpacker/climber so I was very sensitive towards the wilderness issues.

I did know a number of old school heads who were very political in their opinions - they grew up in an era where "the man" was actively trying to kill them.

Being a GenXer is very lucky as we grew up after Vietnam and before 9/11. No global warming, no 24 hours news and no cell phones. (The Boys did the Rainforest benefit but did most people care?) Bill Maher had a great piece just last week about the young adults who can’t put their phones down picking on the Boomers who can’t understand how to use them.

OK Doomer.

But we did have mutually assured nuclear annihilation hanging over our heads.

I recall a day in the early 80's standing outside my house when some type of aircraft, I didn't see it, made such a loud noise, not a sonic boom but a sustained 5 minutes of deafening roar, disorienting like being underwater, all we could do was look at each other and hope it wasn't the big end. That type fright occurred several times, almost always in California. Once 2 days deep in the wilderness. I was certain we were watching the end of time. Knock, knockin on the golden door.

Politics, religion and what not are the small wheel, turned by the fire and rod.
